Born in 1995, Louis Lanne graduated from the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 2023. He lives and works in Paris and is currently an artist-in-residence at Poush.
Louis Lanne paints on Velleda boards where felt-tip pen, oil, acrylic, tar and resin are layered upon one another. This smooth surface becomes a playground where automatic drawings, abstract forms and zany characters emerge and then fade away. Influenced by Bruegel, Dufy, Blake and comic books, he constructs saturated panoramas where the eye drifts amongst a profusion of details. From a distance, one imagines what lies beyond the frame; up close, one is immersed in the material. At the crossroads of worlds, Lanne invites us on a physical exploration where the painting becomes a visual score, alternating between bursts of colour and soothing expanses.
