He is a graduate of the École Nationale Supérieure d'Art et de Design de Dijon. In 2021, he was the winner of the 8th edition of the Emerige Revelation Grant. His work has been featured in numerous group and solo exhibitions at the Hôtel des Arts in Toulon (FR), the Centre Régional d'Art Contemporain in Montbéliard (FR), the Yvon Lambert Collection in Avignon (FR), the Frac Bourgogne in Dijon (FR), and the Consortium in Dijon (FR). His works are included in various private and institutional collections in France and abroad.
Trained as a printer, Hugo Capron translates into painting the pleasure of reproducing the same image in long series that seek to exhaust all possible variations. His paintings are generally executed in a single stroke and without corrections, yet are nonetheless based on precise technical calculations. Long interested in the relationship between the volume of paint and the surface area of the canvas to be covered, his return from Villa Kujoyama in 2019 marked a turning point. His works began to depict subjects that are often classical and anonymous, drawn from the history of printmaking and painting.
Hugo Capron's palettes are the result of meticulous research among suppliers worldwide in search of the most accurate shades. On the canvas, they reveal themselves through a range of textures, glazes, and luminous layers that highlight the speed of execution. The gesture is almost calligraphic-a blend of commas and loops.
