Julien Laporte was born in 1995 in Perpignan. The son of winegrowers, he spent his childhood overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. A graduate of the Beaux-Arts in Paris, Julien set up his studio in his hometown, where he cultivates an instinctive and luminous body of work, like a tribute to the entire South without borders. Like a contemporary Fauvist, the artist captures landscapes and scenes from everyday life with quick, generous brushstrokes that seize the elusive and a palette nourished by vitamin D. Like an invitation to travel, the artist shares his imagination with us in a contemplative, sometimes meditative style. - Clémentine Combes.
"I grew up cradled by the bright, dazzling light of the Mediterranean. My painting is an instinctive and emotional response to these sun-drenched landscapes. It is colourful, direct, uncompromising, reflecting the impressions I retain from my childhood spent between the sea and the hills, between the Tramontane wind and the scent of pine trees warmed by the summer.
My artistic approach is rooted in an intimate and visceral connection with Mediterranean nature. I paint with acrylics, a technique that allows me to get straight to the point, to capture the moment without getting bogged down in detail. What interests me is the sensation, the dazzle, the vivid memory of a place. My paintings are filled with bold colours, fiery reds, burning ochres, sharp blues and vibrant greens. The influence of Fauvism can be seen in the freedom of colour and the expressive intensity of the forms.
I find deep inspiration in the Costa Brava, which I often visit, and in the landscapes of the south of France, among vineyards, scrubland, secret coves and villages under the sun. My walks serve as a mental sketchbook: I soak up the places, breathe them in, absorb their light. I then paint in my studio, always with music playing. Music triggers memories, brings back sensations, helps me rediscover the brilliance of these inner landscapes."
