A graduate of the Basel School of Art, Adrian Falkner entered the art world through graffiti under the pseudonym Smash137. Thanks to his unique mastery of spray paint, he quickly gained a global reputation, both in the graffiti scene and in the world of urban art. Despite his success, between 2015 and 2017 he felt the need to return to study at the Basel School of Art, from which he graduated, in order to nourish his work with other influences and give it greater depth and maturity.
The ‘circular’ works were the first he produced after returning to school. In these paintings, the artist found a way, through an almost automatic circular gesture, to create paintings that were less preconceived than when they were linked to graffiti, and therefore to sketching. Over the years, he has developed a practice around the recovery of his old works, which he has never renounced, cutting them up and assembling them to compose new works that are more refined and less contrasting.
For this new series, he has chosen to create four works largely inspired by his circles and featuring elements assembled and sewn onto each of them.
Adrian Falkner was represented by the Le Feuvre & Roze gallery in Paris between 2014 and 2025. He continues to collaborate with the Jonathan Roze gallery in Rennes.
