It is always with the same pleasure and excitement that we begin an exhibition by François Malingrëy. After 'Les Silencieux' (2020), 'La Chambre Rouge' (in 2021, at Art Paris Art Fair and at the gallery), and 'Les reflets, la naissance, les effondrés' (in 2023, first at Christie's and then at the gallery), François Malingrëy unveils his new series of works alongside Jonathan Roze, in Rennes.
As usual, the series is presented on canvas and cut wood, featuring familiar figures as well as new models, felines and winged creatures.
Through his portraits and scenes, François Malingrëy continues to evolve his work, both in terms of technical mastery and the mysterious, intriguing atmosphere that envelops his works. The costumes and anachronisms reinforce this enigmatic dimension, which allows each viewer to interpret the compositions in their own unique way.
This new exhibition consists of six new oil paintings on canvas and a dozen oil paintings on wood depicting birds: oystercatchers and magpies. The latter complement an installation entitled 'L'automate' (The Automaton), displayed in the window.
